The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Brutally Tactical Tabletop Role-Playing Game
The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to create a TTRPG that explores the series' post-pandemic landscape. This initiative was revealed, with a funding drive planned to launch in April of 2026.
"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the tabletop, providing fans a new way to engage with The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Launch products will include a starter set, essential manuals, a GM screen, miniatures, and various deluxe editions.
Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a lethal pathogen called Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, sending the nation into turmoil. As the crisis worsens, civil order breaks down and violent factions emerge, turning the urban landscape into a battlefield. To preserve law and order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. This is where the agents come in.
Development on the game has been underway for approximately three years, and it is reportedly complete. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a preorder system to reach a broader audience, specifically in the United States. Production is slated to begin immediately following the fundraiser, with deliveries expected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System
A preview at the game's rules reveals it uses d10s exclusively through its new GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and strategic style. Players use skills or traits to assemble small dice pools, usually between one and five d10s.
- Rather than summing the total, participants select a single “resolution die” from the group.
- This die is then measured against a target difficulty.
- Rolling a perfect 10 grants special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.
Combat Focus On Positioning and Situational Insight
Battles stress placement and situational awareness, reflecting the source material. Factors like taking cover, elevation, or line of sight directly influence success chances. This mechanic seems built to reward teamwork and smart positioning instead of raw numbers.
A Novel Health Mechanic
The way health is tracked adds a interesting narrative layer. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At zero health, an operative collapses, but is not unconscious.
- They can still crawl and take limited actions, simulating the last stand common to many shooter games.
- Any agent knocked down must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like shock or crippling injuries.
An Introductory Adventure
A publicly available introductory rulebook will be released soon. It includes a ready-to-play introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players spearhead the hunt for a missing medical team and must thwart an attack by the violent Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup are expected to be unveiled near the Kickstarter start date.
